About Us
September 15, 2005 marks the 5 Year Anniversary of Studio Soto! More on that here.
Established in the fall of 2000 by Francis X. Scire and Gustavo Soto-Rosa, Studio Soto is a small non-profit artist-run organization devoted to contemporary art. The gallery is in the Fort Point arts district in South Boston, right next to downtown Boston. In addition to exhibiting local Massachusetts artists, we show work in a variety of media by artists from South America, Europe, and other parts of the world. Studio Soto recently participated in the FIA Art Fair in Venezuela.
Our mission is to provide a public venue to stimulate the synergy between artistic voices. We support artists who challenge existing notions of contemporary art, encourage collaborations across artistic disciplines and cultural borders, and foster synergies between the artist and the community.
Originally located at 300 Summer St., Studio Soto moved to a first-floor space at 63 Melcher St. in 2002. The following year, the decision was made to become a non-profit. Recently, the gallery's programming has featured performance art, DJs, rock bands, and interactive video installations in addition to the more traditional mediums. July 2005 saw the completion of our first New Media Residency, allowing an artist to work and live in Boston for six weeks leading up to a solo exhibit at Studio Soto, in partnership with Do While Studios.
