I fantasize what it would be like to contemplate the valleys of my memory. The imprecise contours of his smile, the shadows inside his pupils, the crashing black waves of his hair. I travel down impossible geographies feeling lost while I search for him, always elusive.
Landscapes of Dad, 2005
The images from “Landscapes of Dad” are all based on portraits of my father taken from snapshots, passport pictures, and other memorabilia including my parent's wedding pictures. Slivers of the images are extruded to distort the original reference and made to look as imaginary landscapes. While the pieces are abstract they are charged with emotional content from my memory of him.
